The sausage gave it away.
Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is in a pizza pickle for tweeting a stale photo.
When he posted a Twitter pic of a full-moon-sized piece of pizza it hit some users in the eye.
“Great pizza tonight at San Giorgio Pizzeria Napoletana,” he tweeted. “We have to support our local restaurants and small businesses!”
It was supposed to be expressing support to small businesses amid the coronavirus pandemic, but Twitter users quickly outed the photo after noting its sausage configuration looked familiar.
Panning out, the photo was a cropped image of a pizza pic taken with a bunch of friends a year earlier.
A local news site amplified the message and lauded the gumshoes who had solved the Case of the Poser Pizza.
“Gee, a blurry photo of a pizza that Scott Walker absolutely ordered, ate, and enjoyed on December 26, 2020 sure did get a lot of action on Twitter, didn’t it?” the Milwaukee Record reported. “That’s because it’s a cropped photo from a Walker family San Giorgio outing…in 2019. Yes, Scott Walker cropped a year-old photo of a pizza, claimed he had scarfed said pizza inside San Giorgio in the year 2020, and then called on us all to support local restaurant.”
Walker had a ready explanation.
“My family & I went to @SanGiorgioMKE last night,” Walker tweeted in reply. “Great food. I used an old photo since we didn’t take one last night. I’m glad this tweet has generated so much attention. I hope people support Gino and his team at @SanGiorgioMKE. Small business is hurting, & they need our support.”
